Ingredients:
1 egg, beaten
1 small onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp (5 mL) each chili powder, dried oregano and cumin
1/4 cup (50 mL) Heinz Tomato Ketchup
2 lb (1 kg) ground beef
1/4 cup (50 mL) Heinz BBQ Sauce, any flavour
8 slices Monterey Jack or Cheddar cheese
8 burger buns
8 slices crisp, cooked bacon
Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Relish and Mustard
Preparation:
Preheat the grill to medium-high. Mix the egg with the onion, garlic, chili powder, oregano, cumin and ketchup. Crumble in beef and stir gently to combine.
Shape into 8 patties. Grill, brushing with barbecue sauce often (if using), for 5 to 7 minutes per side or until no longer pink in the centre. Top with cheese and cook for 45 to 60 seconds longer. Transfer to buns. Top with bacon and condiments.
Twists:
Twist 1 For a Cordon Bleu-inspired burger, replace bacon with sliced ham and Monterey Jack with Swiss cheese.
Twist 2 For a lighter alternative, use lean or extra lean ground beef and skim milk cheese.
Twist 3 For a zesty burger, substitute Heinz 57 Sauce for the ketchup.
Twist 4 For a tangy treat, spread Heinz Sandwich Spread on the burger.
