Ingredients & Preparation Twists Nutritional Info
Ingredients:
6 slices Cheddar cheese
1/4 cup (50 mL) fresh breadcrumbs
1/4 cup (50 mL) Heinz Tomato Ketchup (approx)
2 tbsp (30 mL) each minced red onion and finely crumbled bacon
2 tbsp (30 mL) each Heinz Mustard and Heinz Relish (approx)
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 tsp (2 mL) each salt and pepper
1 1/2 lb (750 g) lean, ground sirloin or other beef
6 hamburger buns
Preparation:
Cut the pieces of cheese in half, fold 6 of the halves over again to make a square. Reserve both sets of prepared cheese.
Stir the breadcrumbs with the ketchup, onion, bacon, mustard, relish, egg, salt and pepper. Crumble beef into the bowl. Combine gently. Divide beef mixture evenly into six portions. Form each portion of meat around one of the reserved double thick squares of cheese. Each patty should be about 1-in (2.5 cm) thick. Chill for 15 minutes.
Preheat the barbecue to medium-high and grease the grate well. Grill the patties for 6 to 8 minutes per side or until cooked through. Top with the reserved cheese slices during the last few minutes of grilling. Transfer to buns and garnish with additional ketchup, mustard and relish. Makes 6 servings.
Twists:
Twist 1 For an Italian-style burger, replace mustard and relish with chopped sun-dried tomatoes and fresh basil. Substitute mozzarella cheese for the Cheddar.
Twist 2 For burgers anytime, make batches of the burgers and freeze the raw patties, separated by wax paper in an airtight container. Grill from frozen adding, 2 minutes per side to the cooking time.
Twist 3 For an all-out burger banquet, substitute ground Angus beef for regular sirloin.
